We have recommended three patterns to cater for different requirements.

Strips of stretch fabric such as old t-shirts, bias binding or cotton tape.

Elastic can make a mask quicker to put on, but fabric ties also work well.

It is down to personal preference and how comfortable you find each design.

If using t-shirting material or bias binding, four straps 30-35cm in length. If using elastic, two straps 18cm in length.

Feel free to use your imagination and use any colored fabric.

100% cotton works is comfortable to wear. Polycotton and calico are also suitable.

Two layers works well. Any less and the mask does not work effectively, any more and it can become hard to breath during use. It can also depend on the thickness of your fabric.

Every single mask makes a difference. Feel free to make as many as you can.

Active research into the effectiveness of adding a filter is underway, but results are not yet conclusive.

Masks can be made in large, medium and small sizes for both adults and children. These sizes are provided with the patterns.

Most sewing machines will handle fabrics that are 1-3mm thick. Any material thicker than this will need to be hand-sewn.
