“The inequality in South Africa is vast and an act of kindness to a fellow South African makes a difference to both the recipient and the sharer. We need to encourage kindness filled with empathy.”

Wearing a mask is an act of solidarity with everyone globally. Wearing a mask protects people around you, sending a visual sign that you care enough for others and yourself. I believe that art and creativity can transcend messages beyond the daily verbal warnings of fear.

Social activism is part of my creative explorations and working in a collaborative space is important. I believe in sharing creativity with everyone and that we inherently are all artistic.

Erica is passionate about collecting stories, the equal exchange of skills, and sharing new experiences. For 20 years, Erica worked as creative director with Boitumelo based in Hillbrow.

She learnt about collaboration with women through the use of storytelling and crafts as a way to share, connect and build bridges, which is vital in developing creative artwork.

Erica is currently working in De Doorns with a group of daughters, mothers and grandmothers and in Loxton sharing skills about identity and creativity with young people.
