“You never know what someone is going through. Be kind. Always.”

I was invited to be part of this project and jumped at the opportunity. During this pandemic I often felt helpless and hopeless – seeing South Africans struggling to stay safe and healthy. The art mask is a small way of making a difference and helping those in need. It gives me a glimmer of hope to see so many South Africans helping others.

I wanted to make something that not only represents my art aesthetic but also conveys the message of the project. “You never know what someone is going through. Be kind. Always.”

This quote changed the way I share kindness with everyone. It reminds me that we all have battles, good days, bad days and days where a kind word makes a difference. Masks are a way to be kind to everyone. You don’t wear a mask to protect yourself – you wear a mask to protect those around you. Wearing a mask is kindness in action.
