Curating the Embroidery Group
Gail, Nell-Louise, Gill and I have used words as visual imagery. These art masks inherently have a call to action that can be read by the observer. Just breathe, be kind, this too shall pass and join the revolution speak as banners worn as facial coverings.
Gina, Erica and Lisa’s slow stitches are mindful meditations, calming the wearer and viewer. Lebuseng and Lauren’s hold elements as symbolic meaning makers. Lerato’s bright neon colours attract attention. Megan’s intricate beadwork adds layering to the embroidered base. Bev’s beaded entanglement is experimental artistry, questioning process versus function.
Adele’s free motion machine sewing wows with her masterful technique. Stitch’s crochet flowers offer blossoms of joy. Nomfundo’s embroidery reminds us to bee/be kind.
